Ravenhorst & Kohlman – A Dutch Podcast on healthcare: organising for sustainable success – episode 18 “het individu centraal”

In this episode of the Ravenhorst & Kohlman podcast, Sue der Kinderen joins the conversation to explore flourishing at work and why it so often feels challenging in practice. The discussion highlights how well-being cannot be separated from the context in which people work and live: roles provide structure, while lives and careers are constantly evolving. Topics such as courage—understood as tolerating tension when not everything is resolved—the importance of genuine human connection, and the tension between short-term urgency and long-term sustainability are explored in depth. From a eudaimonic perspective, Sue shows how flourishing emerges in the space between individual and context, and what this asks of professionals, teams, and organizations.

Meaningful Work Matters, Episode a conversation with Andrew Soren, “From Well-Being to Well-Doing: Lessons from Sue der Kinderen”

In this episode of Meaningful Work Matters, Sue der Kinderen joins host Andrew Soren to explore what meaningful work looks like when we shift the focus from how people feel to what they do. Drawing on her background as a counseling psychologist and her PhD research in organizational psychology, Sue introduces eudaimonia at work as a pattern of everyday behaviours. Together, they discuss how personal growth, purpose, and relationships are enacted in daily work, how social context and psychological safety shape these behaviours, and why reflection is essential for sustaining meaning over time. The conversation also addresses the limits of work as a source of meaning, offering a nuanced and practical perspective for individuals, leaders, and organizations navigating complexity and change.

Eudaimonia and Eudaimonic Well-Being Behaviors: Well-Doing as a Route to Well-Being at Work

There is increasing recognition for eudaimonic well-being as an important component of our psychological well-being. In contrast to happiness and “feeling good”, eudaimonia, as “doing good”, captures a more functional part of our psychological well-being through personal growth, meaning in life, and positive relationships. Work appears to be a context in which we could pursue eudaimonia—with opportunities for personal development, the pursuit of meaningful goals, and collegial relationships.
